Dear Governor Crist,

I am a concerned Floridian and member of the Linux and/or Open Source Community in Florida.  I would like to express my concern regarding the State of Florida's commitment to using money from the Federal Stimulus Package to continue and expand the use of Linux Computer Operating Systems in the following areas:

1.      State offices and departments

2.      Vendors who do business with the State of Florida. 

We are asking that of the monies received that we appropriate spending in the following areas:

●       Linux Enterprise and Desktop Software

●       Linux and Open Source Software Upgrades

●       Grade School and High School Linux and Open Source Education Programs

We are further asking that a minimum of 10% the stimulus money be allocated to software for Florida be slated for Linux and Open Source Software as part of the low cost producers for the State of Florida.  We are also asking that vendors who do business with the State of Florida maintain at least one PC  that runs Linux or Open Source software. 

Since the Linux Operating System is the backbone of the Internet, we are asking that you work with State Legislators to ensure that the Federal Stimulus Package for the State of Florida have provisions for maintaining current Linux Systems and boosting the level of its use to at least 10% statewide.  By supporting the 10% Linux / Open Source Initiative you are guaranteeing a strong technology base in the State of Florida.  Florida contains the second largest number of Linux User Groups in the country whose members number in the thousands.  Linux equals high paying jobs and low cost software and hardware maintenance.

Governor Crist we would like to know if your office could create a point of contact to address this and any other concerns.
