News Flash - THE FLORIDA LINUX SHOW 2009 ORLANDO CONFERENCE SPONSORED BY RED HAT WAS A MAJOR SUCCESS AND IT WAS THE FIRST LINUX SHOW IN ORLANDO FOR 2004.
Conference Director Rod Sharp opened the show by introducing:
Don Corbet - Chairman Chris Crisafulli - Community Relations Director Bryan Smith - Technical Director Dan Trevino - Director of Web Operations Flo Sharp - Director of Operations Tux Master - Vernon Singleton Tux Master - Steve Litt Tux Master - Clinton Collins, and Tux Master - Tony Becker
After the ribbon cutting ceremony Chairman, Don Corbet opened up the Trade Show exhibit hall and the four concurrent sessions, to the over 500 attendees.
Many of the attendees, exhibitors, and sponsors enjoyed the 40 dozen free donuts Technical Director Bryan Smith made happen with his shrewd sense of breakfast etiquette.
Director of Web Operations Dan Trevino and Community Relations Director Chris Crisafulli worked the exhibit hall floor with Linux Installs of Ubuntu and dispensing technical advice on to attendees of the show.
Tux Masters, Vernon Singleton, Steve Litt, Tony Becker, and Clinton Collins made introductions for all of the speakers and assisted in moving equipment and solving speaker issues that cropped up as the day progresses.
Steve Litt jumped right into the frey and gave an impromptu presentation when a speaker was not able to attend. Vernon Single help move and rearrange the schedule without skipping a beat to keep the show moving. Clinton Collins can easily claim that all of his session started on time and end on time (his new nickname is "Father Time"). Tux Master Tony Becker not only kept his sessions moving but he also brought his who become an Honorary Tux Master as he help his Dad attended a number of the sessions.
In addition to being a highly successful show, the Florida Linux Show 2009 Orlando Conference sponsored by Red Hat was not just a technology event, it was family event, which brought family members together with the entire Linux and Open Source Community.
RobLimo was not only filming the event from a number of vantage points, but he also presented and did a number interviews throughout the show.
All of the Florida Linux Show 2009 Orlando Speakers Sponsored by Red Hat, had superb attendance and all sessisons were nearly filled to capacity with few exceptions.
Bryan Smith also has a new nick name (Master of Ceremonies of the Speed Drawing). Bryan gave away 62 books, 8 USB thumb drives, 2 us100s, one Sheevaplug, and two netbooks in what is described as the fastest drawing since 6 U.S. soldiers were fighting over fresh coffee the morning of the invasion at the Battle of the Bulge.
Don Corbet, MC'ed the Halloween costume contest and I'm happy to report that the two kids left standing at the show split the $50.00 prize. The noise from the crowd was too close to call for a single winner. Congratulations Breanna Crisafulli and Morgan Sharp!
The last preceding of the Florida Linux Show 2009 Orlando sponsored by Red Hat were the awards ceremonies. Red Hat was presented the two year sponsorship award and Peak 10 was given the two support award by Chairman, Don Corbet.
If you missed this year's show 2010 will be even better.
Director of Operations, Flo Sharp is already working on the next show budget!
